Instructor expectations

We need our MNGT 5670 instructors to understand and adopt the best practices of leadership by aligning practice and application to theories to support strategies and actions. It is imperative that our feedback to students is thorough, complete and identifies areas in leadership that can be strengthened with the application of theories, traits and concepts.

This course will explain 'leadership' as the "ability to inspire confidence and support among the people who are needed to achieve organizational goals." As we know there are many definitions about leadership in organizations. We could conduct a google search and find over 69 million entries. However, all definitions basically say the same thing--leadership is a process to guide, direct, achieve, motivate, coordinate others to achieve a common goal. We can debate the real traits and characteristics of effective leadership as it aligns with the many definitions presented in books and across the internet world, but leadership is perceived and seen by others in many different ways. In this course, we will focus on the theories that support strong leadership.

It is the goal of the Management faculty to get our students to acquire a deeper understanding of leadership than they had previously considered.  Explain to your students that leadership is a learnable skill, but it takes some thought and practice to develop this skill. This course provides both the theory and the hands-on practice to develop the skill.

This means the Management Department needs instructors who can not only explain leadership theory, but also can teach this theory using the tools presented in this course.  In partnership and collaboration, we can continue to develop this course with new ideas and innovative activities.
