Dr. Doug O'Bannon Bio:
Dr. Doug O'Bannon is a full professor of strategy on the faculty in the Walker School of Business and Technology, Management Department at Webster University. He completed his BS in Management and MBA (emphases in finance and economics) at Arizona State University, and a PhD in Strategic Management (minor in HRM) at the University of Maryland. Strategy, as a field of study, is relatively new development in management, and the term "strategy" has become a sponge word, soaking up the meaning of whoever was using it, which provides little guidance for students wishing to better understand this construct. But this loose usage of the concept is inadequate when trying to teach or learn "strategy". Dr. O’Bannon’s professional interest became defining the construct of ‘strategy’ in a way that provides meaning for practitioners, and a unifying construct for the field of strategic management. Over time, he developed a pedagogy for teaching strategy and strategic thinking that has become the basis for the revised MNGT 5650 course.
