Introduction to "plan create teach"

Webster University

Knowledge Center

Welcome to the plan...create...teach Training Module

This plan...create...teach module equips you with skills and strategies for teaching in a wide variety of potential formats, and our aim is to provide you with training that applies regardless of the modality you teach in.

There are now four main formats in which classes are taught at Webster: face to face/lecture, remote/WebNet+, fully online, and hybrid. Formats are determined and communicated by your department, so if you do not yet know which format your course should be taught in, please check with your department chair. We've included more details about teaching formats on this page.

If your department or school requires you to complete this content, we will be tracking this through your completion of short survey quizzes called "Knowledge Checks" at the end of each part of the module.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you'll be able to:

  • Identify teaching tools to communicate with students, deliver content, and assess your students’ learning
  • Choose strategies to engage your students remotely, including using discussions, peer collaborations, and real-time and asynchronous activities
  • Identify resources that support your students' success

Our Approach

In designing this module, this is our approach:

  • We assume that you know some of the basics about using Canvas before going through this course. If that's not the case, don't worry! Please first complete the WorldClassRoom overview module before jumping into this module and you should be ready to go.
  • This module interweaves overviews of skills (such as creating links to videos in Canvas) with pedagogical approaches (such as creating productive discussions). We have chosen this approach because we believe that skills and strategies are intertwined.
  • We know that some of this content may be a review for some of you and may be challenging for others. We have included additional resources where appropriate to help connect you to materials that may speak to where you're at, so check out the links we've included.

Overview of This Module

This module is separated into three parts, and each concludes with a survey quiz that helps us track your participation in this training.
