Tools in Your Toolbox

Webster University provides a variety of tools for instructors to use, no matter the modality of teaching.

Canvas/WorldClassRoom is this learning management system that we are in right now. It is a place to host the virtual parts of your course.

To learn more about using Canvas, please visit the following module: WorldClassRoom Module

HINT: You may want to open that link in a separate tab so you can easily find your way back to this page. Learning the information in the WorldClassRoom module will take a bit of time, but it's worth it. Plan on spending a couple of hours learning about and trying out the tools you are considering using in your course.

WebEx is software that allows instructors to meet with students virtually in a real time virtual environment. All instructors can and should have a WebEx account. If you do not have a WebEx account, contact ITSD at support@webster.edu.

To learn more about using WebEx to teach your class remotely, visit our WebNet+ and WebEx module here in the Knowledge Center.

Here is a link to the first page of the module: WebEx /  WebNet+ Module

HINT: You may want to open that link in a separate tab so you can easily find your way back to this page. Learning the information in the WebEx/WebNet+ module will take a bit of time, but it's worth it. Plan on spending a couple of hours learning about and trying out the tool you will use to conduct synchronous meetings with your class.

Starting in Fall 2020 (maybe late summer 2020), all instructors will have access to Zoom accounts. We are moving to Zoom from WebEx because of faculty feedback that Zoom is a preferable platform for teaching and in particular for holding small group discussions (break out rooms). Our contract with WebEx ends on October 27, 2020.

As soon as information about Zoom accounts for instructors is available, we will be sharing that with you and creating a module with training guidelines. Zoom will be integrated into Canvas/WorldClassRoom, which should make it easier for you and your students to access.

Office 365 contains the entire suite of Microsoft tools for you to use while teaching. Create, store,  and share Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents. You can get there by clicking on portal.office.com Links to an external site.and by logging in with your Webster credentials. All instructors and students have an Office 365 account, so your students can use this suite of tools for collaborations with each other.
