Try It!

Let's practice a few of the skills we've covered in this part of the module: creating an Assignment, attaching a Rubric, and viewing the Assignment and Rubric in SpeedGrader.

Create an Assignment

  1. Navigate to the Assignments tab in your course and click the "+Assignment" button
  2. Give your Assignment a title, put details in the text box, and determine how many points it is worth and when it is due. Click Save at the bottom.
  3. Need more guidance?

Create and Attach a Rubric

  1. Once you have saved your new assignment, scroll to the bottom of your new assignment and then click "+Rubric."
  2. Give your rubric a title and start adding columns to the rubric with the "+ Criterion" button. Either copy and paste from a rubric you've already created (in a Word doc, for instance) or compose your rubric from scratch. Click the pencil icon within any cell to edit the contents of that cell.
  3. Need help creating the content of your rubric? Here are some example rubrics for discussions and papers.
  4. Need help creating your rubric in Canvas?

View It All in SpeedGrader

  1. After you have attached your rubric and saved your assignment, click on "SpeedGrader" to the right of your assignment. Once in SpeedGrader, try out some of the annotation tools, and view the rubric by clicking "View Rubric" on the right-hand side.
  2. Want more details about SpeedGrader?
