Capstone Simulation training for instructors
Capstone Simulation training for instructors
All MNGT 5650 instructors are required to teach using the Capstone Simulation. The Capstone Simulation is the primary learning tool used in this course to apply the lessons of strategic thinking, and a large part of the course grade, so students will want to do well, which places demands on our instructors to teach the simulation well.
Self-paced training is provided for instructors:
1) Instructors must first schedule a 'walk-thru' of the Capstone Simulation. Contact Eric.Smith@capsim.com for this.
2) Instructors are required to complete all Capstone tutorials, on the Dashboard at capsim.com. These tutorials will help you understand the two major reports (Capstone Courier and Team Annual Reports) and make sense of the data, and prepare you to play a demo simulation for practice.
3) Instructors are required to play a minimum of four rounds of the Capstone Simulation against (five) computer teams. After playing several practice rounds, instructors should be able to confidently explain simulation results to students and answer their questions. If at this point you do not understand the Capstone Simulation, please (4) get more training before attempting to teach this challenging course.
Several faculty discussions/training webinars with Eric Smith at Capstone have been recorded to provide additional training and information to those wishing to master teaching using the Capstone Simulation. These are informal discussions, not even close to being professionally produced, but they contain some very good comments, instructions, tips etc. for using Capstone.
Webinar 1 - Discussion of Capstone basics
Webinar 2 - Discussion of Capstone markets and company functions in decision-making
Webinar 3 - Discussion of how to debrief Capstone results for students
Webinar 4 - Discussion of how students make Capstone decisions
After reviewing these four webinars, if you haven't done so already, please contact Eric.Smith@capsim.com to get an individual walk-through of the simulation (approx. 1 hour), view all Capstone training tutorials (on Dashboard at capsim.com), and finally play a minimum of four rounds of Capstone to gain experience with the decision-making process and interpretation of results. Be sure to post your questions (and responses) in the Faculty Discussion section so others can learn from it as well.
