CapSim ModXm Pre-Test:
In Week 1 of this course students will complete a pre-test developed by the CapSim organization. Details of this pre-test posted.
After you establish an account complete the pre-test and upload a screen shot of your score and results in the assignment page. This is a required exercise to prepare you to administer this test in the course.
MNGT 5000: Pre-test Exam Instructions
The collection of assessment data is an important component of program evaluation. The purpose of this pre-test is to measure your knowledge across various subject areas as you enter the program. At the end of the program, students will take the same exam, thus “closing the loop” and providing valuable data for program decision making. There is no consequence for having a low score or reward for having a high score on the pre-test. We only ask that you complete the exam to the best of your abilities.
You should be aware of the following before starting the exam:
- There are 119 questions in the exam
- The questions come from different subject areas o Business Statistics
- Finance
- Accounting
- Operations Management
- Economics
- Marketing
- Management
- Strategy
- Information Systems
- Business Law
- Business Research
- Communication
- Leadership and Conflict
- Ethics
- Team Effectiveness
- Cultural Competence
- The exam will take around 3 hours to complete
- The exam must be completed in one sitting
- 1. Register for the exam
- 2. Complete the exam
- 3. Create individual development plan(s)
- 4. Download certificate of completion
- 5. Turn in assignment on Canvas
The remainder of this document will walk you through how to complete the pre-test. There are 5 main steps:

Step 1: Register for the Exam on Capsim
1) Click this link: https://ww5.capsim.com/registrationapp/your-account/X118934 Links to an external site.
2) Enter all required information in the registration form. Click “Continue” at the bottom of the page when finished. a. Be sure to remember the User ID and Password you create for your account as that is how you will sign into Capsim to complete the pre-test.
3) Click the green “Login” button to sign in with your user ID & password to get started. a. If you wish to complete the exam later, you can return to www.capsim.com and click “Sign In” near the top right to enter your user ID & password and complete the pre-test when you are ready.
Step 2: Complete the Exam
4) After signing in on www.capsim.com, click the “Modular-XM” icon to enter the exam
5) Complete the short tutorial before starting the exam
6) WHEN YOU ARE READY - Go to “Dashboard” and click “Take Exam” to complete the exam. As mentioned before:
• There are 119 questions to answer
• The exam will take about 3 hours to complete
• You must complete the exam in one sitting
• Contact Capsim if you need your exam reset: support@capsim.com or 312-477-7200
7) You should complete the exam yourself without any outside help and always abide by the student code of conduct. If you agree to the terms of use, click “Agree” and start the exam. When you are finished with the exam, please move on to the next section.
Step 3: Create Individual Development Plan(s)
Goal: Individual Development Plans are an effective way to set SMART goals for yourself (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-based).
Your Task: You should create at least one Individual Development Plan for any subject area(s) you wish to improve.
8) When you are finished with the exam, click “View” on your dashboard to view your full results.
9) After clicking “View” full results - Scrolling to the bottom of the page will breakdown your results by subject area. Find an area of need in your results and click “Improve” to get started creating an individual development plan. You are encouraged to create an individual development plan for all subject areas with a medium or high need for development. Our example student will be creating a plan to improve their accounting skills.
10) From here, simply fill out the (3) forms before saving your individual development plan and turning it in to your instructor on Canvas. Our example student has a high need to develop their accounting skills. First, they are asked to reflect why accounting is relevant to their career and where they might use this subject area in their life, school, job, or anywhere else. When you have finished your own reflection form, click “Next”.
11) Now it’s time to set a goal. How much do you want to improve your score? By when will you reach your goal? How will you measure your progress? When finished creating your goal, click “Next”. Example below.
12) The last step is to create a plan to achieve your goal. What actions will our example student take to improve their accounting skills? By when will they complete those actions and what resources are needed to succeed? When finished creating your own plan, click “Next”.
13) At this point, you’ll see a summary of your Individual Development Plan that you need to SAVE near the bottom right.
14) Finally, you need to DOWNLOAD your individual development plan after it has been saved. The download option is also near the bottom right. Your downloaded individual development plan is one of the items you’ll turn in to your instructor on Canvas. The other is the certificate of completion, which we’ll go over in a moment.
15) All completed individual development plans will be stored under “Saved Skills” on your exam dashboard. You can always click “Preview” to download or revise your saved goals as needed.
Step 4: Download Proof of Completion
16) To download your proof of completion certificate, click “View” under full results
17) Next, click “Certificate of Completion” near the top right.
18) Lastly, download your completion certificate PDF. This option is typically located near the top right of the page in your browser as you see in the screenshot.
Step 5: Turn in Assignment on Canvas
19) Your instructor will inform you where to turn in your completed individual development plan(s) and proof of completion certificate on Canvas.
