Situation

Jennifer is a 29 year old from Orlando, FL. She graduated with her BA in English 7 years ago. She has been in her current entry-level position with a medium-size sales company for several years. Jennifer’s supervisor mentioned that an advanced degree would help propel her career to the next level. Jennifer feels that an MBA is the best fit for her. Since Jennifer travels frequently for work, she needs a program that offers her the flexibility and convenience to work around her schedule. Jennifer has chosen Webster University for the blended program options and global study opportunities.

Advising

During the conversation Jennifer has with her Academic Advisor, a degree plan is agreed upon which details the following:Jen2.jpgJennifer registered for BUSN 5760 Applied Business Statistics near the beginning of her program, but quickly recognized that her undergraduate studies did not sufficiently prepare her for quantitative work at the graduate level. Her advisor suggested it might be advantageous to utilize the Academic Resource Center’s (ARC) peer tutoring service. When she needed assistance, the ARC’s peer tutoring for quantitative courses significantly helped Jennifer successfully complete her course.

That term, the same course had been cancelled at the Orlando campus due to low enrollment. For students who had opted to take the course online, the Director made arrangements for them to use the classroom as a place to meet for a study group. Jennifer’s advisor put her in touch with one of the students, and they invited her to join them during their meetings at the campus. Jennifer successfully completed BUSN 5760 and she could not have done it without her committed study group cohort.

While looking for an extracurricular activity to further boost her resume, Jennifer was excited to see that Webster offers Global Hybrid Business courses in Beijing, China. She has never been to China! She will be taking 8 weeks of coursework online and then traveling for an entire week, which still gives her one additional week of vacation to use at her job.
