Situation

Roberta is a 37 year old stay at home mother of three from Myrtle Beach, SC. Since her youngest just started school full time, she feels comfortable going back to school to pursue her MA in Counseling. She has a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and has spent the last 5 years volunteering within her local community. Ideally, she would like to work with families and children. Roberta is looking to choose an university that offers her flexible class scheduling, provides global and holistic classroom experiences, and will allow her to work with her family’s schedule. Webster University’s Master’s in Counseling offers a connection to a diverse population and allows students the ability to study with individuals from across the country via WebNet+ and online courses.

Advising

During the conversation Roberta has with her Academic Advisor, a degree plan is agreed upon which details the following:rho2.jpgSigning on to her first course in WorldClassRoom, Roberta notices that she has been enrolled in the Online Student Commons (OSC). Curious, she contacts her Advisor to see what this course entails. Her advisor explains that the Online Student Commons is a virtual student center that allows students to discuss their courses, degrees, and textbook information. The OSC also provide students with links to university wide resources.

Roberta is notified by her Advisor that Myrtle Beach’s COUN 5200 Assessment course and Ft. Sill’s COUN 5200 Assessment course are being combined to create a WebNet+ course. Because the Webnet+ course is being held at the same time as her previously scheduled course, Roberta does not need to rearrange her schedule. She is excited about the multi-campus collaboration and is anticipating a diverse and lively discussion. In her Assessment course, Roberta wrote a paper about the legal and ethical implications of "Distance Therapy". Several of the counselors are seeking distance counseling credentials including herself, so Roberta found this to be an innovative course delivery method. Virtual reality therapy may be implementable in her profession.
