Preparation Options

Course Delivery & Flexibility: There will be adjustments to face-to-face instruction as needed to adhere to safety and security guidelines. Remote learning activities and options will be a component of most classes, and some classes will be offered entirely in a remote format.  Importantly, all classes will be need to be prepared to shift to remote learning if it becomes necessary.

Use the table below as a high level view of tasks that might move to the virtual, remote instruction environment. Most of the links on the right side of the table will go to readily available resources such as the Canvas Guides or previously recorded demonstrations.

It is suggested that you think through your strategy first (plan), before announcing to students and preparing the remote parts of your class (create). Having your plan in place, with resources available to students, options for communications, and pathways for assignment submission will help to make the transition go smoothly for both students and instructors (teach). When you are finished reviewing the resources on this page, we suggest that you visit the "plan ...create.... teach" module to learn more strategies for preparing for 'your' version of remote instruction.

Additional resources, the other two parts of what we consider Essential Training for teaching in a modified instructional delivery, are included in modules within this Knowledge Center.

Tools to Use

Communication

Consider how you will communicate with students if coming to class is not an option

Syllabus

Your complete syllabus should be available within WorldClassRoom to provide students all of the information they need to be successful in the course.

Your syllabus can be available in WCR by doing one of the following:

Concourse: If your school or college already uses the Concourse Syllabus generator, your syllabus is available from the Syllabus link in the course navigation. Ensure that the information is complete, including contact information.

Syllabus tool: use the 'Edit' button to either add the text from your current syllabus or create a link to the syllabus document.

Canvas Guide: Using the Syllabus Tool Links to an external site.

Documents, Readings, Presentations

All Webster courses have a course shell in WorldClassRoom. If you haven't done this already, upload or link all course materials (readings, videos, recordings, notes, etc.) in your online course shell so that your students can easily access them.

Digital Engagement and Submissions

Using the Assignments feature in WorldClassRoom, you can create assignments, and have students submit their work. SpeedGrader is an integrated tool that is available to provide feedback to students.

Discussions Icon

Class Discussions

Your discussions on a topic can be held within WCR in order to help students apply conceptual learning. The Discussions tool allows for threaded discussions that can be graded or ungraded. Videos, links to documents and/or images can be embedded in the discussion.

Quiz Icon

Quizzes and Exams

If you have a quiz or exam that you would normally distribute in class, consider creating the quiz/exam using the Quizzes tool in WCR. If the test is all objective questions, the system can do the grading for you.

Video

Record video or audio of yourself delivering a lecture, explaining course concepts, or working out problems.

Virtual Class or Office Hours

Instructors can meet with students individually or as a group using readily available tools.

Feedback and Grades

A complete gradebook is available in WCR and includes access to the SpeedGrader tool so you can review and grade assignments, quizzes, and discussions.
